New Lancet Study Estimates Gaza Death Toll 35% Higher Than Official Count

The Lancet British-based medical journal put out a report on Feb. 19 suggesting that the actual death toll in Gaza from Israel’s war of genocide is likely 35% higher than the official count. The Gaza Mortality Survey estimated 75,200 “violent deaths” in Gaza between 7 October 2023 and 5 January 2025, reported Middle East Eye. On Jan. 5, 2025, the Palestinian health ministry reported the death toll at 49,090. The new study, published on Feb. 18, 2026, suggests that the actual figure was about 35% higher.
