Pope Leo Joins Cuban Bishops to Call for 'Sincere and Effective Dialogue’ for Cuba

In his Angelus prayer this morning, addressing a large crowd in St. Peter’s Square, Pope Leo XIV reported he had received “greatly troubling” news about increased tensions between “two neighboring nations,” Cuba and the United States of America, and the immense suffering endured by the Cuban people. The Pope said he was echoing the message of the Cuban Bishops Conference, issued a day earlier, “to all Cubans of Good Will.”

The Cuban Bishops’ document, the Pope said, invites “all responsible parties to promote a sincere and effective dialogue, in order to avoid violence and every action that could increase the suffering of the dear Cuban people. May the Virgen de la Caridad del Cobre assist and protect all of the children of that beloved land!”
