Regional Outrage to Huckabee's Comments

Mike Huckabee’s comments endorsing a “Greater Israel” sparked immediate backlash across the Middle East and Muslim-majority world. Fourteen governments—Egypt, Jordan, the UAE, Indonesia, Pakistan, Türkiye, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain, Lebanon, Syria, and Palestine—along with the OIC, League of Arab States, and Gulf Cooperation Council, issued a joint statement in response.

In the statement posted by the OIC, the signatories “express their strong condemnation and profound concern” regarding Huckabee’s comments, which they say are dangerous, inflammatory, and “a flagrant violation of the principles of international law and the Charter of the United Nations.” They warn that such rhetoric threatens regional security and stability.

The statement also argued that the ambassador’s comments directly undercut President Trump’s own stated vision for the region, including the plan to end the Gaza conflict, which envisions de-escalation and a path toward Palestinian statehood. The signatories said that rhetoric legitimizing control over other nations’ territory fuels tensions rather than advancing peace.
