State-Funded ‘Rearmament Boom’ in Germany

Domestic German orders for weapons and ammunition reached unprecedented levels in the last two months of 2025, exceeding the pre-2022 average by more than 20 times. “These orders are just the tip of the iceberg, as the government is also spending large sums on military vehicles, ships, and aircraft,” Robin Winkler of Deutsche Bank Research said.

Mechanical engineering companies recorded an increase of 11.5%. “In these two sectors, a number of companies from different areas reported large orders,” the statisticians explained. Growth in the manufacture of electrical equipment (+9.8%) and data processing equipment, electronic and optical products (+5.7%) also had a positive effect. In the automotive industry, however, order intake shrank by 6.3%. In other vehicle manufacturing—aircraft, ships, trains, military vehicles—there was a decline of 18.7% compared to the high level of the previous month. “Nevertheless, there were again extensive large orders here,” it was reported. Experts assume that large government orders for upgrades are also likely to come in the coming months.
