Top Iranian Diplomat Describes Talks with U.S. as Positive

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told reporters that “good progress” was made during the indirect talks in Geneva on Feb. 17 between Tehran and Washington compared to the previous session, reported IRNA. He said that the negotiations were held in a serious atmosphere and were more constructive than the previous round.

Araghchi noted that various ideas were proposed and reviewed during the talks to work toward drafting a text, adding that both sides reached a general agreement on guiding principles and would now focus on discussing these principles to move forward with the text-drafting stage.

Araghchi emphasized that the path has only just started, declaring that drafting the text will be more challenging and require detailed work. He added that progress made in this round of negotiations has been better than in the previous one, and described the path ahead as bright.
