US forces boarded another tanker in the Indian Ocean yesterday as the Trump Administration continued to target Venezuelan oil in the aftermath of the Jan. 3 U.S. military kidnapping of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. According to AP, the tanker Veronica III was subject to US sanctions and was one of at least 16 that fled the Caribbean in the wake of the Jan.3 raid. The Defense Department said in a post on X that U.S. forces boarded the Veronica III, conducting “a right-of-visit, maritime interdiction and boarding.”
“The vessel tried to defy President Trump’s quarantine—hoping to slip away,” the Pentagon said. “We tracked it from the Caribbean to the Indian Ocean, closed the distance, and shut it down.”
