Wagenknecht Declares, Germans Are Taken Hostage by Government's Support for Ukraine

The German government’s ambition to become the leading supporter of Ukraine will imply an increase of support funds from €8.5 billion this year to €11.5 billion in 2027. This has been met with sharp criticism from the opposition. Sahra Wagenknecht, chairwoman of the party program commission of the BSW, told the Feb. 11 issue of Berliner Zeitung: “The federal government is turning German taxpayers into the number-one financiers of war. Instead of seriously working on a peace plan and demanding that the Ukrainian President be willing to compromise, the Federal government is writing Ukraine one blank check after another.”
