The Irish national Dominick Skinner, 31, established a Netherlands-based website, ICE List, which now has millions of views and 500 volunteers. The mission of this website is to unmask and remove the anonymity of armed federal agents roaming the streets of U.S. cities. The site operates as a crowdsourced wiki where the volunteers process tips from the public. Skinner decided to create the website in June, when Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem warned that Americans would be arrested for identifying immigration agents. Upon hearing these threats, Skinner said, “Well, we’re not in the U.S., so send them to us.” The site now has a waiting list of 300 additional people requesting to be volunteers.
The website does not publish home addresses or personal phone numbers of federal agents, but will identify names, positions, and when available, photos of agents and administrators. Most of the tips come from neighbors or from staff members at hotels and bars where agents congregate. The tips are then verified with publicly available data. Skinner told London’s daily The Guardian, “Over 90% of the people we have, we’ve identified through information they themselves have made public,” referring to sites such as LinkedIn. “All we do is amplify already publicly available information.”
