A convergence of real religions can, in the context of the fight for a new world security and development architecture, create the conditions for reestablishing peace. Here are some of the main areas touched on in the interview.
Jacques Cheminade gave a hard-hitting 26 minute interview to Al24 News, the public national Algerian TV station, on the Israeli-American war against Iran and the European position. To the somber picture presented by the interviewer, Cheminade responded that some events give him hope: Today a majority of French citizens are against the war, 55 to 65%, and the same is true in some other countries. The second one is the coming visit of Pope Leo XIV to Algeria and to other African countries.
The Pope condemned U.S. President Donald Trump’s adventure very clearly. Then, a Cardinal condemned the images projected by Truth Social of Iranians being massacred to the tune of the Macarena and other swing songs, showing a total lack of empathy toward the Iranian people. This reveals an opposition to the war from within the Church, and the BRICS countries are more and more condemning the war.
To a second question on why there has been a total absence of condemnation from “democratic” Europe against the war, and in particular from France, as opposed to a clear opposition from Spain, Cheminade said that “indeed” Spain has a real “Socialist” government as opposed to France. Cheminade noted that Spain forbade the U.S. from using its bases to refuel war planes, while France is refueling them at its Istres base, and is also using its Rafale warplanes to intercept Iranian missiles in the war against Israel. France’s position is warmongering, even though expressing itself hypocritically.
