Democrats To Move Another Anti-War Resolution

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) announced on March 19 that Democrats will soon launch another effort to end President Donald Trump’s war with Iran. “What we’re focused on now is stopping this reckless war of choice,” Jeffries told reporters in the Capitol. The Hill noted that on March 5, a resolution sponsored by Reps. Thomas Massie (R-KY) and Ro Khanna (D-CA) failed by a vote of 212 to 219.

But the new resolution will be different from the Massie-Khanna resolution. “It will be different in nature to some degree because we’re now approximately three weeks into the war, and we’ve got a lot more information that can be presented to the American people as it relates to the concerns that they, of course, have had from the very beginning,” Jeffries said.

The Hill notes that only Massie and one other Republican supported the Massie-Khanna resolution, while four Democrats—Reps. Jared Golden (Maine), Juan Vargas (California), Greg Landsman (Ohio), and Henry Cuellar (Texas)—voted “no,” but conditions have changed since then, as gas prices have spiked and the administration is now asking for $200 billion to fund the war.
