While Egypt is actively engaged in diplomatic efforts to end the war on iran, there are clear signs it is also readying for regional military defense.
On March 30, Egypt’s Minister of Defense and Military Production, Lieutenant General Ashraf Salem Zaher, met with officers and non-commissioned officers of Egypt’s Second and Third Field Armies “to discuss regional developments and reinforce combat readiness, the military,” Al Ahram daily reported.
“The meeting is part of ongoing engagements by the Armed Forces’ General Command aimed at unifying operational concepts and raising awareness of the rapidly evolving events in the Middle East and their implications for Egypt’s national security,” it reported. Gen. Zaher answered questions from the officers on the regional situation, and stressed the importance of maintaining full awareness of these developments “to ensure the highest levels of efficiency and combat readiness.”
