Finland Intelligence Finds No Evidence of Russian Role in Underwater Cable Incidents

A favorite theme of Western propaganda has been that incidents of damage to underwater cables in the Baltic Sea were to blame on Russia. This has now been publicly denied by none other than Finland’s spy chief Juha Martelius, who has not only admitted this, but also added that the assessment is “very broadly” shared within the European intelligence community.

Seabed infrastructure in the waterway has been repeatedly damaged in a series of incidents over the past two years. Several merchant vessels have been found dragging their anchors across the seabed, damaging power and communication cables in the process.

Speaking to the magazine Suomen Kuvalehti in an interview published March 11, Juha Martelius, the head of the Finnish Security and Intelligence Service (Supo), admitted that no proof of Moscow’s involvement had been found.
