The Iranians are ridiculing Trump’s claim made on March 23, that he and “the next ayatollah” could jointly control the Strait of Hormuz. “First he said: ‘The Strait of Hormuz must be opened.’ Saeed Jalili, a former Iranian nuclear negotiator, wrote on X. Then he said: ‘I will insure and escort the ships.’
“Now he says: ‘I am inclined to manage it jointly with Iran!’
“This is the epitome of retreat: Iran’s power has brought America to the table of realities.”
The Iranians have also dismissed claims that they might mine, or already have mined, the Strait. “The Islamic Republic of Iran confidently has the initiative in the Persian Gulf and the territorial waters of Oman Sea and is very intelligently and powerfully controlling the Strait of Hormuz,” said the spokesman for the Khatam al-Anbia Central Headquarters, last night. “Therefore, due to our dominance and sufficient power, there will be no need to lay mines in the Persian Gulf, and when necessary, we will use all available means to ensure security.”
