The US/Israeli war on Iran threatened to spiral out of control, today, after Israel struck gas storage and processing facilities in Iran’s South Pars gas field. In response, the IRGC has threatened to attack five gas and oil facilities in Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the UAE. The IRGC statement warned civilians to stay away from those five locations. Israeli journalist Barak Ravid, writing in Axios, reported that Israeli officials said the strike was coordinated with and approved by the Trump administration. The price of crude oil surged to $108 per barrel on the news.
Qatar called the Israeli strike on South Pars “dangerous and irresponsible.” Qatar shares part of the South Pars field with Iran. “The Israeli targeting of facilities linked to Iran’s South Pars field, an extension of Qatar’s North Field, is a dangerous & irresponsible step amid the current military escalation in the region,” Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed al-Ansari said on X. “Targeting energy infrastructure constitutes a threat to global energy security, as well as to the peoples of the region & its environment,” he added, calling on all sides not to target “vital facilities.”
