An Israeli strike on a primary healthcare center in the southern Lebanese border village of Burj Qalawiyeh killed 17 medical staff on Friday, March 13, including doctors, nurses, and paramedics, Middle East Eye reports. Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health said 31 paramedics have been killed since the war began on March 2, accusing Israel of “targeting ambulance crews while they were performing rescue duties.” The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) claimed, without evidence, that the facility was being used for military purposes—the same justification it repeatedly applied to striking health facilities in Gaza. At least 826 people have been killed across Lebanon since the war began, including 106 children.
