Lula Forces Showdown over U.S. State Department Interference in Brazil's Elections

Brazilian President Luiz Lula da Silva announced on March 13 that the U.S. State Department’s newly-designated “Special Advisor on Brazil,” one Darren Beattie, will not be issued a visa to enter Brazil, unless and until the State Department restores the U.S. visas of Brazilian Health Minister Alexandre Padilha and his family.

To quote Lula: “That American guy who said he was coming here to visit Jair Bolsonaro—he was barred from visiting, and I barred him from coming to Brazil until they release the visas for my Health Minister, which are currently blocked. They blocked the visas for Padilha, his wife, and his ten-year-old daughter.”

President Lula is calling the question on who is running Brazil policy in the Trump administration.

Beattie is no diplomat, but a notorious career white nationalist racist, advocate of sterilizing poor people, and a hitman within the administration on behalf of former Brazilian President, convicted golpista Jair Bolsonaro and his two sons, Eduardo and Flavio.
