Millions of Americans Losing Health Insurance

Despite the expiration of the enhanced subsidies of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) at the end of 2025, 69% of policyholders still have their ACA plan because of a 90-day grace period. Often called Obamacare, only 17% of the participants say that they could continue to make their new premium payments for the entire year, suggesting that millions more will soon lose coverage, according to a March 19 study by the Kaiser Family Foundation. Of those who have kept ACA plans, about half report being forced to cut back on spending on food and other basic necessities, and most report jumps in out-of-pocket healthcare expenses with higher copays and larger deductibles. Some have said that their health insurance is more costly than their mortgage. Virtually all face hard choices between increased grocery prices, higher housing costs, and spiking energy prices.
