Millions Participate in 'No Kings' Rallies Across Country, World

On March 28, an estimated 8 million people turned out in ‘No Kings’ demonstrations across over 3,000 cities in the U.S., and in several countries in Europe, to protest the U.S. war against Iran; the activities of ICE in major U.S. cities; the rising cost of living; and against President Donald Trump’s overreach of power. Coverage was widespread in U.S. media.

Tens of thousands of people turned out in major U.S. cities from Los Angeles, to Minneapolis-St. Paul, to New York City. Signs included, “No Kings, No War, No ICE,” “Regime change begins at home,” “Defend Our Constitution,” and some rallies featured a small blimp depicting Trump as a squalling baby in diapers.

CNN explained that “organizers said, ‘No Kings’ protests intentionally lack a single, specific demand, reflecting the diffuse nature of the anti-Trump effort. The signs protesters carried on Saturday highlighted a wide range of issues, including immigration patrols (‘ICE Needs to Melt’), democracy, diversity and the war against Iran. ’We Can’t Afford the War or the Gas,’ read one sign in Atlanta,” and the NYT pointed out that no national spokesman of note has emerged to give leadership and direction to the protests.
