No One Responding to Trump's Demands on Strait of Hormuz

So far, no U.S. allies have positively answered Trump’s demand that they deploy naval vessels to “secure” the Strait of Hormuz. In fact, the list of countries refusing grew yesterday to include Germany and other NATO members.

“This war has nothing to do with NATO. It’s not NATO’s war,” said Stefan Kornelius, a spokesperson for the German chancellor, in a press briefing on Monday, [reported Drop Site News](https://www.dropsitenews.com/p/iran-war-trump-witkoff-araghchi). “I would also like to remind you that the U.S. and Israel did not consult us before the war, and that Washington explicitly stated at the start of the war that European assistance was neither necessary nor desired.”

“What does Trump expect—a handful of European frigates to do that the powerful U.S. Navy cannot? This is not our war, and we did not start it,” [added German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius.

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul doesn’t see NATO playing a role in dealing with the blockade of the Strait. “I don’t see that NATO has made any decision in this direction or could assume responsibility for the Strait of Hormuz,” he said Monday ahead of a meeting of European Union foreign ministers in Brussels, The War Zone reported in a roundup. “If that were the case, then the NATO bodies would address it accordingly.”

“No one wants to be actively drawn into this war,” said EU Foreign Affairs Commissioner Kaja Kallas following consultations among EU foreign ministers in Brussels yesterday. “This is not our war.”
