Spanish Deputy PM Díaz Condemns U.S.-Israel Attack on Iran as ‘Illegitimate,’ Blasts EU Members for Acting Like ‘Vassals’

Spanish Deputy Prime Minister Yolanda Díaz attacked most of the EU’s member nations and its bureaucracy, as being “servile” and acting as “vassals” to U.S. President Donald Trump, in a step-up in Spain’s attack on the U.S.-Israel military assault on Iran.

Deputy Prime Minister Díaz, in an interview published by Politico on March 12, said that Europe should be pushing back hard against the “completely illegitimate” war in Iran, which the U.S. and Israel started on Feb. 28. She continued, “Europe must stand on the side of international law, human rights, and democracy. Given the times we’re living in, none of us can afford to remain silent.” She took aim at European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen for not moving immediately to condemn the attack on Iran, and said von der Leyen should speak out swiftly, as Politico summarized her statement, “in defense of the same international law principals that can be found in the Charter of the United Nations.”

The Spanish Deputy Prime Minister also took on Europe’s leaders, for being “servile” to U.S. President Donald Trump, asserting that the approach was “foolish, because it’s clear Mr. Trump does not respect those who attempt to be his vassals.”
