State Duma Deputy Zhurova Interviewed in Russia on Her Washington Parliamentary Visit

In an exclusive interview with Argumenty i Fakty posted on March 28, State Duma Deputy Svetlana Zhurova reveals some of the experiences of the delegation during their U.S. visit over March 26-27. “A fairly representative meeting took place, including from Congress. A number of congressmen were present—both from the Republican and Democratic parties, which, incidentally, also suggests there was interest in meeting with us. Incidentally, it was a Democrat who said that if we, within the two-party system in America, can and should agree on certain issues, then Russia and the United States are also, so to speak, doomed to negotiate as superpowers,” Zhurova noted.

While remarking that some of the congressmen were not in favor of Russia’s military action in Ukraine, she said: “American congressmen are saying that we need to talk, we need to share positions, voice them, and still try to find common ground so that a peaceful settlement can take place.”
