U.S. President Donald Trump called Russian President Vladimir Putin today, according to Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov, and they talked for about an hour. He reported the the discussion centered around “the situation around conflict with Iran and the trilateral negotiations on the Ukrainian settlement.”
He highlighted “that the conversation was businesslike, frank and constructive,” and that they had “not spoken on the phone for a long time,” since “the end of December 2025.” Then, he reported, it was Trump who “noted that, as agreed previously, such communication should, of course, be carried out on a regular basis, and both leaders said that they are ready for this.”
Putin pushed for “a speedy political and diplomatic settlement of the Iranian conflict,” taking into account his contacts “with President of Iran [Masoud] Pezeshkian and the leaders of a number of other countries.” Trump “gave his assessment,” with Ushakov calling the discussion “a very substantive and, I think, useful exchange…”
