Volkswagen Moves Indicative of German Retooling for Military

Retooling of German industry from civilian to military production is now underway, as indicated by moves by Volkswagen. A week ago, the management of Volkswagen presented two prototypes of jeeps developed at the Osnabrueck plant, with the offer to produce these for the military after the planned shutdown of civilian cars in 2027.

Now, the management is also engaged in talks with Israel’s Rafael Advanced Defence Systems about production at the VW plant in Osnabrueck of components for the Iron Dome air defense shield, the [Financial Times reports](www.ft.com/content/1e41e6db-792f-4f60-b567-adb6458fb072). This does not involve missile production, but special trucks for transporting missiles, as well as power generators and launchers for the missiles. The management claims that retooling from car production would take up to 18 months and require relatively low investments.
