In response to a question of the role of the Global South countries in the Global Governance Initiative, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that the “collective rise of the Global South is a distinct hallmark of the great transformation unfolding in the world.” Noting that hegemonism is not beginning to assert itself, he said that the influence of the Global South is now an emerging positive force for good on the international stage and that it should speak up for peace and empower development.
He said that multilateralism was “vital for the Global South” and plays an important part in the United Nations. “China’s heart is with the Global South and China’s root is in the Global South,” he said.
