Will There Be a Long Ground War, a Short Nuclear War, an Economic Collapse and Dark Age, Or Will Mankind Organize a New Security and Development Architecture? The Erinyes Are Circling the Globe

During the March 20 meeting of the International Peace Coalition, Schiller Institute founder Helga Zepp-LaRouche once again raised the question of whether the leaders of the world, particularly in the West, can be made to recognize that the path to survival depends on creating a new security and economic development architecture for the planet as a whole.

Otherwise, there are many possible scenarios for the unfolding and escalating war in Southwest Asia. One seemingly likely scenario is some kind of ground invasion of Iran or an attempt to take Kharg Island. Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu has said that regime change in Iran cannot be accomplished from the air, but requires ground troops. However, as was predicted by the American intelligence community, assassinating leaders in Iran has only served to unify the population behind the regime, despite earlier grievances. A ground invasion would only further strengthen Iranian resolve not to capitulate to a foreign adversary.

Another possible scenario, especially if Israel is increasingly hard hit and/or American soldiers start dying in larger numbers, is the use of a nuclear bomb by either Israel or the United States using a “tactical nuclear weapon.”

It is also possible that if more and more oil fields or LNG facilities are damaged and destroyed in the course of the conflict, and the Strait of Hormuz remains closed, there will be serious economic disruptions across the globe, particularly among American allies like Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan, not to mention Western Europe, which is already experiencing fuel shortages. Perhaps the inevitable economic chaos will provoke Western leaders to abandon their insane war policy.

In the United States, the opposition to the war is growing. American representatives are moving toward another vote invoking the War Powers Resolution, where Congress may refuse to authorize the expected $200 billion funding request for the Iran war from the Trump administration. It is said that some in Congress want to prevent the possibility of a ground invasion, but over 5,000 U.S. Marines are already on their way to the region.

Two days ago, Independent Presidential candidate Diane Sare convened a press conference with whistleblowers Lt. Col. (ret.) Anthony Aguilar and former FBI special agent Colleen Rowley to call for other patriots to come forward and reveal to the American people the truth about the insanity reigning in the Pentagon and corridors of power in Washington, D.C. The day before that press conference, now-former director of the National Counterterrorism Center Joseph Kent came forward and did exactly that.

Kent said that he could no longer in good conscience support a war against Iran, which was not an imminent threat to the United States and not in the interest of the American people. When he spoke at the Washington, D.C. Catholics for Catholics conference, he said that in one of his first deployments to Iraq, he had promised himself that if he were ever in a position to make policy, he would not send young American men and women to their deaths in a war based on lies, and added that the decision to come forward had actually been “easy” and “liberating.”

It is the job of our readers (that’s you) to create a dynamic in which other men and women of goodwill find the courage to step forward and reveal the ugly truth to the American people and the people of the world. We are already seeing rumblings of a big political shake-up, as AIPAC-funded candidates are failing to win in some congressional primary elections, but it would be foolhardy to wait for a Congressional purge in November.

In Israel, war criminal Netanyahu gave his first English-language press conference since the start of the Iran war. He once again repeated his favorite expression that “history will not favor Jesus Christ over Genghis Khan.” Unfortunately for him, the Erinyes of poet Friedrich Schiller’s Cranes of Ibycus have been unleashed, and they are circling the globe. We are in a pre-revolutionary moment, as we can see by Joe Kent’s coming forward. We are in a moment as described by poet Percy Bysshe Shelley when there is “an accumulation of the power of communicating and receiving intense and impassioned conceptions respecting man and nature,” even if the people themselves do not understand the power of the words they are speaking. Martin Luther King said, “The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.” A word spoken in truth at the right moment of history can shatter what once appeared to be a towering edifice of lies.
