Zakharova Calls Out U.S. and Israel for Missile Attack on Iran’s Nuclear Power Plant

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova had unsparingly severe words March 18 for the mass-murderous U.S.-Israel alliance’s firing of missiles that struck within 350 meters (383 yards) of the 915-megawatt Bushehr nuclear power plant in Iran. Not only did it potentially threaten the lives of no fewer than 480 Russian employees of Russia’s Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation working at the site, but it was a way for Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu to do a test, to show the Iranians that Israel could, if it choses, blow up the plant.

This is the way that the Israeli dictator introduces new targets and objectives in the war.

Zakharova knows how dangerous this is. She stated: “We strongly condemn the reckless and wholly unacceptable missile strike carried out within the inner perimeter of the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant just a few short meters away from an operational power unit.” She continued: “We have repeatedly made it clear to Israel and the United States, which continue the aggressive military campaign against the Islamic Republic of Iran, that creating threats to the life and safety of the numerous Russian personnel remaining at the site was absolutely unacceptable.”

She addressed the two aggressors: “Tel Aviv and Washington must stop their reckless attacks on nuclear infrastructure facilities, which create real risks of a radiological and environmental disaster on a regional scale.”

Immediately after the attack, International Atomic Energy Agency Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi outright refused to identify that the United States and Israeli military were responsible for the attack. Said Zakarova: “We expect the International Atomic Energy Agency, under whose safeguards the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant operates, to come up with an unequivocal condemnation of this outrageous incident. We also look forward to hearing an appropriate response from all responsible and sensible members of the international community, above all the Gulf States, which could be the first to suffer the consequences.”

Finally, Zakharova reminded all that it is time for Washington and Tel Aviv to call off the dogs of war. “We call on the parties involved in the conflict to come to their senses and to make efforts towards an immediate ceasefire and de-escalation of tensions. Continued hostilities are fraught with unprecedented ramifications for all of the Middle East, including in the nuclear sphere.”
