A projectile landed on the grounds of the Bushehr nuclear power plant yesterday destroying an auxiliary building and killing a security guard. Russia built the Bushehr plant, and still houses hundreds of Russian technicians at the facility, although they have reportedly been evacuated following the most recent attack. The reaction in both Moscow and Tehran has been sharp. “We are receiving with growing concern reports about new missile shelling of the Bushehr nuclear power plant that took place on April 4. We are studying the incoming information on this matter. We strongly condemn this crime, which resulted in casualties,” Maria Zakharova said, reported TASS.
“Overall, the global community, of course, reacted with concern to what happened. The Director General of the IAEA spoke out, and a number of our contacts with our partners, phone calls and emails indicate growing concern. Everyone is very alarmed by the trend toward escalation,” said Rosatom chief Alexei Likhachev.
