The U.S. military has requested deployment of hypersonic weapons against Iran, according to Bloomberg, citing a person with “direct knowledge of the matter.” U.S. Central Command wants the Army’s Long Range Hypersonic Weapon, known as Dark Eagle, deployed. No public announcement of such an escalation has occurred, nor has any official confirmed the report.

A justification is offered, that Iranian ballistic missile launchers may have been moved beyond the 300-mile range of the Army’s Precision Strike Missile. However, this may be exploited as an opportunity to field-test the long-delayed U.S. entry into hypersonic weaponry. Fox News Digital (FND) cited a defense official who explained that the system has reached initial operational capability, marking the first time the U.S. has a land-based hypersonic weapon available for potential use.
