ChatGPT Under Criminal Investigation for Instructing Florida Mass Shooter

On April 21, Florida Attorney General James Utmeier announced new details of a criminal investigation by his office into ChatGPT and its parent company OpenAI.

Utmeier reported that ChatGPT had offered “significant advice” to Phoenix Iker, the shooter who killed two people and injured six others at Florida State University on April 17, 2025.

Apparently, the advice included such things as responding to questions about guns and ammunition, and when various parts of the campus would be at their busiest.

ChatGPT has also come under investigation for aiding children wishing to commit suicide with similarly “significant advice.”
