A variety of countries from Asia to Europe reacted favorably to U.S. President Donald Trump’s April 7 announcement on Tuesday night of the ceasefire with Iran, reported the Times of Israel’s live update page for April 8.
• Indonesia welcomed the ceasefire and called on all parties to respect sovereignty, territorial integrity and diplomacy, Yvonne Mewengkang, a Foreign Ministry spokesperson, says.
• Oman’s Foreign Ministry emphasized “the importance of intensifying efforts at this juncture to identify solutions capable of resolving the crisis at its roots and achieving a permanent cessation of the state of war,” as it welcomed the ceasefire.
• Germany’s Chancellor Friedrich Merz welcomed the ceasefire and urged a definitive end to the conflict. The goal now is “to negotiate a durable end to the war in the next days,” he said in a statement. “This can only be achieved by diplomacy.” He added that Germany will contribute “to guarantee freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.”
