Wendy Sherman, who served as President Biden’s Deputy Secretary of State, said in an interview with Bloomberg published on April 24 that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu “in essence created a genocide” in Gaza, reported Haaretz. Sherman said that she “can’t make the legal analysis about whether it is literally a genocide, but there is no doubt that Gaza was demolished,” and additionally that Palestinians “deserve a home and dignity and peace.”
Sherman went on to say that “it is critical that Israel remain an ally of the United States,” but that “Prime Minister [Netanyahu] has led us down a road, and we have been part of it, that has in essence created a genocide in Gaza, that has destabilized the Middle East.”
