Germany: Major Oil Refinery Threatened with Shutdown

A major oil refinery in Schwedt, Germany is threatening to stop production if oil deliveries from Kazakhstan are discontinued. The Schwedt refinery (PCK Raffinerie) is one of the most strategically important energy assets in Germany, especially for fuel supply in the eastern part of the country. It supplies a huge share of Berlin and eastern Germany: around 90–95% of fuel for Berlin and Brandenburg comes from Schwedt. It provides gasoline, diesel, heating oil and jet fuel for Berlin airports. Nine out of ten cars in Berlin use fuel from Schwedt.

So if Schwedt is disrupted, fuel availability in Germany’s capital region is immediately affected.
