Having established a promotion and export center in South Africa for the countries in sub-Saharan Africa in January, the German Grimme agricultural machines company is now considering a manufacturing site there to develop the African market with modern machinery. The company is already active in 14 African countries, with substantial engagement in Zimbabwe and Nigeria. The machines are for harvesting potatoes and vegetables, and storage facilities to prevent the rotting of many harvested goods are included.
Frank Nordmann, Grimme’s official in charge of Africa, said that, according to Philipp Grimme, co-CEO of the company, which was established in 1861 and has since been owned by his family, the agricultural sector of Africa has a great potential, of which only a fraction has so far been tapped. He added the advice to other German companies that want to enter the African market, to work through higher developed countries with good development experience like South Africa and Egypt.
