Italian Defense Minister: Hiroshima Has Not Taught Us Anything

In an interview with Corriere della Sera published a few hours before the Trump-Iran deadline, Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto said he is afraid the world has not learned the lessons of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945.

“I fear that a situation that is already dire could take an even more tragic turn. Because I know that humanity has shown us there is no limit to madness,” Crosetto said, adding; “Those who decided that even Hiroshima and Nagasaki were acceptable to end a conflict are human beings just like us. Unfortunately, we still have nuclear weapons, and those who don’t have them are seeking them. We have learned nothing.”

“I hope everyone realizes what we are going through,” he explained. “It is a situation without precedent in recent decades. There is a mounting accumulation of critical issues that feed off each other, making them increasingly difficult to resolve.”
