There is revolt over President Trump’s Iran war even amongst his most loyal followers. According to a recent CNN poll, a third of MAGA Republicans already oppose his threat to put troops on the ground in Iran. But Trump’s performance on Easter Sunday, with his vulgarity and his mocking of religion, has triggered a storm of protest.
Ann Coulter accused Trump of “actually committing war crimes.” Tucker Carlson’s podcast yesterday was outraged: “Who do you think you are? You’re tweeting out the f-word on Easter morning? ... We’ve intentionally bombed civilian infrastructure. That’s totally unacceptable. Not under the phony laws of some international body but under moral law, God’s law. Killing noncombatants who did nothing wrong, who are people created by God, is immoral.” There are other examples, but this interchange was notable for allowing the seriousness of the situation to go beyond outrage and protest.
On yesterday’s Alex Jones Show, his former lawyer, Robert Barnes, said that Trump is “threatening an extinction-level event for the people of Iran tomorrow. Does nobody think there’s gonna be any blowback from that? If he follows through on that, the whole world is screwed.”
