On April 5, Bangladesh launched a campaign to vaccinate 1.2 million children, starting in areas of recent outbreaks and areas of high population-density. In all of 2025 Bangladesh had only 125 known measles cases, but in just the three weeks since March 15, medical professionals have identified 7,500 suspected measles cases, and at least 100 children have died. One-third of all cases are infants under nine months of age. This is the worst outbreak to hit Bangladesh in years, and the government is working with the United Nations, the World Health Organization (WHO), and other organizations to battle the highly contagious and potentially fatal disease.
