Over the past 48 hours, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin has held an intensive series of phone discussions and meetings with key figures in the Middle East, attempting to bring an end to the U.S.-Israeli assault on Iran by addressing the problem from a broader and higher perspective.
On March 31, Putin and the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, held a discussion. The Russian Foreign Ministry reported, “The leaders had a detailed discussion of the situation arising from the unprecedented escalation of the conflict in the Middle East. Both sides emphasized the need for an immediate cessation of hostilities and the pursuit of political and diplomatic agreements that would fully respect the interests of all the states in the region.”
The very same day, Putin and President of the UAE Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan held a phone call, in which the two leaders, according to the Russian [Foreign Ministry}(http://en.kremlin.ru/events/president/news/79447) “expressed profound concern over the ongoing deterioration of the military and political situation in the Middle East, the loss of civilian lives, and the destruction of energy, industrial, and other civilian infrastructure.”
