On April 15 the Foreign Ministers of Russia and Saudi Arabia held a telephone call to bring about a “termination of the hostilities” in Iran and the Persian Gulf, going beyond, apparently, merely a ceasefire, and to “coordinate conditions that would guarantee long-term stability and security.” The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported:

“On April 15, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had a telephone conversation with Foreign Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud. The ministers exchanged views on the situation in the Strait of Hormuz after the US-Israeli attack on the Islamic Republic of Iran and Tehran’s response actions. They reaffirmed the importance of an immediate termination of the hostilities, which are having a negative impact on the Persian Gulf countries, primarily their civilian infrastructure. They also expressed a shared opinion that the United States and Iran should continue their political and diplomatic efforts with Pakistan’s mediation.”
