Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov met with Chinese Minister of National Defense Admiral Dong Jun in Moscow yesterday, for what was likely a very important discussion. Neither side, however, provided much information about the content of the talks in their public statements.
Belousov stressed that the permanent personal contact between the leaders of the two countries, Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping, determines the special role of bilateral cooperation, reported the Russian Defense Ministry. It quotes Belousov saying: “Military bilateral cooperation takes on particular importance in a constantly changing military-political situation. This is one of the key elements of regional and global security.”
“The two sides held in-depth exchange of views on the relations between the two countries and two militaries, the international and regional situation, as well as issues of mutual concern,” the Chinese side reported. “They agreed that, under the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and President Putin, China-Russia relations have consistently maintained a high level of healthy development. The successful video summit between the two heads of state in February this year charted a new course for cooperation across all fields, including the military sector.”
