The War Has Cost the Pentagon $25 Billion So Far

Acting Pentagon Comptroller Jules Hurst III managed to raise eyebrows when he reported it during a House Armed Services Committee hearing on the Pentagon budget on April 29, because Pete Hegseth’s “War Department” has not been forthcoming to Congress about the war costs.

“So approximately, at this day, we’re spending about $25 billion on Operation Epic Fury. Most of that is munitions,” Hurst said in response to a question from ranking member Rep. Adam Smith (D-WA) during the hearing on the Pentagon’s $1.5 trillion defense budget request. “We will formulate a supplemental [evaluation] through the White House that will come to Congress once we have a full assessment of the cost of the conflict,” Hurst said.
