Russian Chief of General Staff Gen. Valery Gerasimov paid a visit to the command post of the Yuzhnaya (Southern) Group of Forces yesterday where he received reports from Commander of the Group Colonel General Sergei Medvedev on the current situation in the area of responsibility, as well as reports from the commanders of the formations on combat mission results, the Defense Ministry said in a statement.
“In March and April, the Russian troops liberated 34 settlements and about 700 square kilometres of the territory,” Gerasimov said. “In total, since the beginning of this year, 80 settlements and more than 1,700 square kilometres of territory have come under our control. The liberation of the Lugansk People’s Republic has been fully completed. At present, the Joint Group of Forces is on offensive in all directions.”
