In a meeting of defense ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov charged that the United States and its allies are destroying the foundations of the global security architecture in order to maintain global dominance. “Their aggressive course exacerbates geopolitical divisions, undermines strategic stability and key peace agreements,” Belousov said, reported the Russian Ministry of Defense. He noted that there has been a “significant increase in the conflict potential” in the world. “At the same time, the role of international institutions has decreased.”
In his remarks, Belousov briefed his counterparts on the threats facing the SCO, advocated a diplomatic solution to the U.S.-Iran conflict and steps the SCO members can take to improve defense and security cooperation among themselves.
