On Easter Sunday, April 5, the White House posted a statement, “This Easter, President Trump Reaffirms America as a Beacon for Christian Liberty.” The statement lists 22 points of how “President Trump is protecting Christians at home;” and lists seven points under, “President Trump is protecting Christians abroad.”
The points are a brew of boastings, all the worse for being in the name of religion, of such U.S. actions over the past year as bombing in Nigeria, and withdrawing the United States from the World Health Organization.
The statement opens: “This Easter Sunday, as Christians around the world rejoice in the glorious resurrection of Jesus Christ, President Donald J. Trump stands as a fierce defender of the Christian faith.” On Easter morning, Trump showed what is meant by his faith, in posting the profane, mass-murder threat to Iran.
Among the domestic measures cited in the statement’s praise of Trump-the-Christianity-Defender, is that he established “the historic White House Faith Office.” Its director is Rev. Paula White-Cain, who likened Trump to Jesus, in her remarks made at an April 1 White House Easter gathering.
Note two more of the White House points of praise of Trump: “President Trump placed Faith Directors or Faith Liaisons in every federal department and agency;” and also—keeping in mind Trump’s demonstrations of “religion”—the Trump Administration directed federal agencies to “support and protect religious expression in the workplace.”
