On Monday, the Wall Street Journal reported that President Trump was “skeptical” of Iran’s new counter proposal that it reopen the Strait of Hormuz while leaving nuclear negotiations to a later time, considering that they may not be negotiating in good faith. Trump reportedly discussed the matter during a Situation Room meeting on Monday, and is unlikely to accept it.
One U.S. official said “He doesn’t love the proposal,” reported Haaretz.
Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said Monday: “The President has met with his national security team this morning. The proposal was being discussed. I don’t want to get ahead of the President or his national security team.” When asked if the administration was considering Iran’s proposal, Leavitt said: “I wouldn’t say they were considering it. I would say there’s a discussion.”
