Today in Beijing President Xi Jinping met with Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, who is on a visit to China. Besides discussing many aspects of strengthening China-U.A.E. relations, they conferred on coordination in multi-lateral associations, including the BRICS and United Nations. Foreign Minister Wang Yi was present at the leaders’ meeting.
They discussed the Southwest Asia crisis. As reported on April 14 by the Chinese Embassy in Washington, D.C.: “The U.A.E. commends China’s responsible and constructive role in international affairs, and China’s efforts on promoting political settlement of the crisis taking place in the Middle East. The U.A.E. is committed to staying in close communication and coordination with China to facilitate ceasefire between the relevant sides, restore peace and stability in the region as soon as possible, maintain international shipping security, and prevent further impact on the global economy and energy security.”
Xi Jinping presented four points of principle to resolve the Southwest Asia crisis. As reported by Xinhua today, they are:
1) “adherence to the principle of peaceful coexistence. It is imperative to promote the building of a common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security architecture for the Middle East and the Gulf region….”
