Although 2026 is not a census year, there is a mad scramble in several states to redraw congressional district lines in order to eliminate as many Democratic districts as possible. This also includes eliminating a number of majority African American districts by dividing them up into new districts, which will shrink representation of the African American base as well.
The Newsmax article, “Democrats in Panic: GOP To Gain 10 House Seats,” claims:
“A major ruling this past week by the Virginia Supreme Court invalidating the state’s newly drawn congressional map, combined with a recent U.S. Supreme Court decision limiting key provisions of the Voting Rights Act, could ultimately hand Republicans control of the House in the next Congress.”
