China Promotes ‘Nine Points of Reform’ for the World, at Friends of Global Governance Meeting

At yesterday’s meeting of the Group of Friends of Global Governance in at the United Nations in New York, China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi proposed his “Nine Points of Reform” to improve global governance. There were over 60 nations in attendance and several of these representatives commented that China’s nine point program aligns with the goals of the United Nation’s March 2025 “UN80 Initiative,” which seeks to make the UN “more effective, agile and better equipped to respond to global challenges.”

China’s nine points were reiterated today in Beijing at the briefing by Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mau Ning, when she was asked about the significance of yesterday’s New York Global Governance session.

The points, in brief: 1. Reform and increase efficiency at the UN. 2. Improve the authority and efficacy of the UN Security Council. 3. Modernize peacekeeping operations. 4. Pool international consensus for faster growth. 5. Revise the direction of international human rights governance. 6. Reform the economic and financial system to favor development. 7. Establish rules for AI management. 8. Create guidelines for new frontier areas such as cyberspace or outer space. 9. Promote exchanges between civilizations for broader-based inclusiveness and mutual learning.
