Slovakia’s Fico Will Not Attend Victory Day Parade While in Moscow

Obviously feeling the heat from the EU leaders, just finished with their European Political Community love-fest yesterday in Yerevan, Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico announced that he will not be attending the May 9 Victory Day Parade in Moscow during his upcoming trip there. “I’ll go to Moscow, lay flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier of the Red Army, and have a short meeting with President Putin,” he told reporters in Yerevan yesterday, adding, “I won’t be attending any military parades.” While Fico has been under pressure from the European leaders, this is not the first time he missed the parade, due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine; it was also the case last year when he visited Moscow during the same period.
