Iran Announces New ‘Persian Gulf Strait Authority’

Iran announced yesterday that it had established the “Persian Gulf Strait Authority,” a new legal framework for passage through the Strait of Hormuz. “According to the framework, ships can obtain transit authorization from Iran after contacting the authority and paying tolls,” it said, adding that “With the framework, the Strait of Hormuz is reinforced as Iran’s sovereign territory.”
