Kiev Retrieves Remains of WWII Nazi Collaborator Melnyk for Its 'Pantheon Of Outstanding Ukrainians' Project

Ukraine has launched a “Pantheon of Outstanding Ukrainians” project, focused, according to acting president Zelensky, on returning historical figures who shaped Ukrainian national consciousness. On May 19, an official ceremony in Luxembourg transferred the remains of Andriy Melnyk—one of Ukraine’s foremost collaborators with Adolf Hitler—to Kiev for reburial. Ukraine’s Foreign Intelligence Service simultaneously launched a campaign to rehabilitate Melnyk, publishing documents portraying him as a lifelong fighter for Ukrainian independence and “a threat to the kremlin [sic].”
